Historical Background:

The Bergepanzer 38(t), based on the Hetzer tank destroyer chassis, was developed by the BMM factory in Prague as a battlefield recovery vehicle. Featuring a foldable jib crane and winch system, it was designed to retrieve immobilised vehicles and perform light maintenance under combat conditions. Production began in late 1944, with roughly 180 vehicles completed before the war’s end. The late version included a rear-mounted blade and other field modifications. These vehicles were typically assigned to Panzer repair units and played a crucial support role within Wehrmacht armoured formations.
