The Thunder Model 1/35 scale kit of the Soviet ChTZ S-60 Stalinetz tractor brings a cold-weather classic to life. This Soviet-built tracked tractor, originally developed in the 1930s, was pressed into military service during the Second World War for towing artillery and supplies across the Eastern Front. With its exposed engine and distinctly robust construction, the S-60 was a true workhorse of Soviet logistics and artillery support.

Historical Background:

The ChTZ S-60 (Stalinetz) was a tracked agricultural tractor manufactured at the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant, known as Tankograd during World War II. Based on American Caterpillar technology, the S-60 was widely adopted by the Red Army for its durability and power. It was commonly used to tow medium and heavy artillery pieces such as the 152mm ML-20 gun-howitzer. Despite being unarmoured and exposed, the S-60 was a vital part of Soviet logistics operations, particularly in muddy or frozen terrain where wheeled vehicles would fail. Thousands were built and saw service right through the end of the war.
