History:
The USS Ohio (BB-68) was one of five planned Montana-class battleships intended to succeed the Iowa-class during World War II. Designed to be larger and more heavily armed, the Montana-class would have featured twelve 16-inch guns and enhanced armour protection. These ships were conceived to counter the growing threat of Japanese Yamato-class battleships. However, shifting naval strategies and the increasing importance of aircraft carriers led to the cancellation of the Montana-class in 1943 before any of the ships were constructed. The USS Ohio, along with her sister ships, remained on the drawing board, representing the pinnacle of battleship design that was never realised. This model kit allows enthusiasts to explore the design and history of one of the most ambitious battleship projects of the era, providing a unique addition to any collection focused on naval warfare.
