History:
The Fairey Barracuda Mk II was a British carrier-borne torpedo and dive bomber developed during World War II. As the Royal Navy’s first all-metal monoplane of its type, the Barracuda represented a significant advancement in naval aviation. Entering service in 1943, it was primarily operated by the Fleet Air Arm for anti-submarine warfare, reconnaissance, and bombing missions. The aircraft gained notoriety for its role in the 1944 attacks on the German battleship Tirpitz, where it demonstrated its versatility and effectiveness. Despite initial challenges with performance and reliability, the Barracuda proved to be a valuable asset and remained in service until the early 1950s. Its unique high-wing design and operational history make it a subject of interest for aviation historians and model builders alike.
