History:
Throughout the 19th century, Afghan tribesmen fiercely defended their mountainous homeland against foreign incursions, particularly during the First (18391842) and Second (18781880) Anglo-Afghan Wars. Drawn from various ethnic and tribal groups such as the Pashtuns, Hazaras, and Tajiks, these warriors were known for their resilience, sharpshooting, and knowledge of the rugged terrain. Armed with a combination of jezails (long-barrelled muskets), swords, and captured modern rifles, they operated in irregular formations using ambushes and guerrilla tactics. Often wearing turbans, loose robes, and carrying distinctive curved daggers, Afghan fighters posed a formidable challenge to the better-equipped British forces. This set brings to life the spirit and style of Afghan resistance during a century of conflict and imperial rivalry.
