History:
Between 1877 and 1885, British infantry served in two major imperial conflicts: the Second Anglo-Afghan War and the Sudan campaigns, including the Mahdist uprising. Troops deployed to these harsh environments wore khaki uniforms adapted for tropical and desert service, typically equipped with Martini-Henry rifles, bayonets, and traditional webbing. In Afghanistan, British forces faced mountainous terrain and tribal resistance, while in Sudan, they confronted determined Mahdist forces in brutal desert battles such as El Teb and Tamai. The discipline and firepower of the British infantry were key to holding imperial positions under extreme conditions. This set reflects the look and composition of Britains colonial forces during a defining era of Victorian military history.
