History:
British infantry were the mainstay of King George IIIs forces during the American War of Independence (17751783). Trained in linear tactics and equipped with the Brown Bess musket, these redcoats fought across the thirteen colonies in battles ranging from open-field engagements to skirmishes in dense woodland. Early-war uniforms featured tricorn hats and long-tailed coats, which later evolved into lighter gear suited for North American campaigning. British regiments were supported by Hessian auxiliaries, Loyalist units, and artillery, but the wars guerrilla-style fighting and logistical challenges made victory elusive. Despite tactical successes, the conflict ended in defeat for Britain in 1783, with some garrisons remaining abroad until 1786. This set captures the classic appearance and posture of British line infantry during a pivotal chapter of 18th-century military history.
