History:
The Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, within the broader timeframe of British colonial operations from 1877 to 1881, marked one of the most iconic conflicts of the Victorian era. British infantry during this period wore red tunics, white pith helmets, and carried the single-shot Martini-Henry rifle. These troops fought in tightly formed ranks against the Zulu impis, whose tactics and bravery left a lasting impression on military history. Battles such as Isandlwana, where a British column was famously overwhelmed, and Rorkes Drift, where a small garrison held off a massive assault, highlighted both the challenges and heroism of the campaign. This set captures the appearance and bearing of British regulars at the height of Britains imperial reach in southern Africa.
