History:
During the Napoleonic era, elite companies were the pride of every French infantry battalion. Each battalion typically included one grenadier company and one voltigeur companypositioned on the flanks during deployments and tasked with specialist roles. Grenadiers, often the tallest and most experienced soldiers, were used for shock assaults and defensive strongpoints. Voltigeurs, trained for agility and marksmanship, acted as light infantry and skirmishers. Between 1807 and 1814, their uniforms evolved but retained key features such as the bearskin caps (for grenadiers), colpacks or shakos (for voltigeurs), and colourful epaulettes. These companies played crucial roles in battles across Spain, Russia, and central Europe. This set brings to life the flair, discipline, and fighting spirit of Frances most respected foot soldiers.
