History:
French dragoons played a vital dual-role as both mounted and dismounted troops, offering Napoleon flexible cavalry capable of engaging in a variety of battlefield tasks. Between 1812 and 1815, their role shifted more towards heavy cavalry, especially as cuirassiers became less available.
