History:
The Franco-Prussian War of 18701871 saw the evolution of skirmish tactics as both French and Prussian forces adapted to modern weaponry and battlefield conditions. Prussian infantry, equipped with the Dreyse needle gun and supported by superior organisation, engaged French forces wielding the more advanced Chassepot rifle. Skirmishes often erupted ahead of major engagements, with small units probing enemy positions, seizing terrain, or covering flanks. These actions were especially common in the wooded and hilly landscapes of Alsace and Lorraine. This set captures the tense, fast-paced encounters between opposing infantryillustrating the human scale of a conflict that would alter the course of European history.
