History:
From 1450 to 1500, light cavalry played a vital role on European battlefields, offering speed, flexibility, and tactical versatility. Unlike their heavily armoured counterparts, light cavalry wore minimal protectiontypically a brigandine or jack, and open-faced helmets like sallets or kettle hats. Armed with spears, swords, or crossbows, they were used for scouting, screening movements, chasing down routed enemies, and engaging in skirmishes. In the Wars of the Roses and Burgundian Wars, these cavalrymen were often part of noble retinues or mercenary contingents. Their lighter equipment allowed them to operate effectively in rough terrain or on extended campaigns. This set captures the dynamic and mobile nature of these essential mounted troops during the closing decades of the medieval era.
