History:
In the early years of the Peninsular War (18081811), the Spanish infantry faced tremendous challenges as they resisted Napoleons forces across the Iberian Peninsula. Despite shortages of equipment and inconsistent training, Spanish line regiments fought with determination in both set-piece battles and guerrilla campaigns. Their uniforms varied widely, with many units wearing regulation white or dark blue coats, while others adopted local or outdated patterns. Supported by militia and irregulars, regular Spanish infantry fought at Bailnthe first major defeat of a Napoleonic armyas well as at Talavera, Albuera, and other key engagements. This set captures the varied appearance and enduring spirit of Spains fighting forces during the early and most volatile phase of the conflict.
