History
The AH-64 Apache entered service in the mid-1980s as the U.S. Army’s primary attack helicopter, designed to destroy armoured targets and support ground forces. The AH-64A was the original production variant, featuring advanced night vision and targeting systems, a 30mm M230 chain gun, and the ability to carry AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and Hydra 70 rocket pods. The Air National Guard operated the AH-64A in various states, including South Carolina, providing both national defence and overseas deployment capabilities. Over its career, the Apache has proven itself as a formidable and reliable platform in modern conflicts, laying the foundation for the upgraded AH-64D and AH-64E variants that followed.
