History:
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was the Luftwaffe’s standard fighter throughout World War II, serving from the Spanish Civil War until 1945. The G-series, introduced in 1942, featured a more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine and increased armament, making it a formidable adversary against Allied fighters. Known as the “Gustav,” the Bf 109G became the most produced variant of the series, with thousands built in multiple sub-variants adapted for interception, bomber escort, and ground attack roles. Although later challenged by advanced Allied fighters such as the P-51 Mustang and Spitfire Mk XIV, the Bf 109G remained a backbone of German air defence until the end of the war, cementing its legacy as one of the most important fighters in aviation history.
