History:
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat entered service with the US Navy in the early 1970s as a carrier-based fleet defence fighter. Equipped with variable-geometry wings, powerful twin engines, and the advanced AWG-9 radar, the Tomcat could engage targets at long range with AIM-54 Phoenix missiles or excel in close-range dogfighting. The F-14A variant was the first production version, serving aboard US aircraft carriers during the Cold War and later conflicts. Immortalised in popular culture through its role in the film “Top Gun,” the F-14 became an enduring symbol of American air power. The Tomcat remained in frontline service until its retirement in 2006, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most capable and recognisable naval fighters of its era.
