The Tiger I entered service in 1942 and quickly gained a reputation as one of the most powerful tanks of the Second World War. Its thick armour and devastating 8.8cm gun made it a formidable opponent on the battlefield. During Operation Citadel, the German offensive at Kursk in 1943, early Tiger Is played a central role in attempts to break Soviet defences. Although ultimately unsuccessful, the operation solidified the Tiger’s fearsome reputation, and it remained one of the most iconic tanks of the war.
