History
The M113 armoured personnel carrier was one of the most widely used armoured vehicles of the 20th century, serving with dozens of nations worldwide. Israel adopted the type in the late 1960s, modifying it with extra armour protection to better withstand battlefield threats such as RPGs. This upgraded version became known as the “Zelda” and first saw major action during the Yom Kippur War of 1973. Over the following decades, Zeldas participated in numerous conflicts, including operations in Lebanon and Gaza. Although gradually replaced by the more heavily armoured Namer APC from 2004, Zeldas remain in service with reserve units. Their adaptability and resilience have secured their place as one of the most recognisable vehicles in IDF service.
