History:
The M163 Vulcan Air Defense System entered service with the US Army in the late 1960s as a mobile short-range air defence vehicle. Mounted on the versatile M113 armoured personnel carrier chassis, the system featured the powerful M61 Vulcan Gatling gun capable of firing up to 3,000 rounds per minute. While designed to counter low-flying aircraft and helicopters, the M163 also proved effective against light ground targets during its service. It remained in use through the late Cold War era and saw operational deployment in conflicts including the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm.
