History:
The M36B1 Gun Motor Carriage was introduced in 1944 as an interim solution to the growing threat of German heavy armour such as the Tiger and Panther. Combining the proven M4A3 Sherman chassis with the turret of the M36 Jackson, it mounted a powerful 90mm M3 gun capable of defeating thick enemy armour at long ranges. The open-topped turret allowed for excellent visibility but left crews vulnerable to artillery and small arms fire. Deployed in Europe during the closing stages of the war, the M36B1 played a crucial role in restoring balance to Allied anti-tank capabilities and continued in service post-war in various armies around the world.
