History
The MiG-21, known by NATO as “Fishbed,” became one of the most widely produced supersonic jet fighters in history, with over 11,000 units built. Introduced in the late 1950s, the MiG-21PF was a radar-equipped interceptor variant designed to counter Western jet aircraft during the height of the Cold War. Fast, agile, and relatively inexpensive, it served with numerous air forces across the Soviet Union, Warsaw Pact countries, and allied states worldwide. In Vietnam, the MiG-21 proved a formidable adversary to US aircraft, while in Europe it formed the backbone of Warsaw Pact air defence. The aircraft’s versatility and combat record made it a symbol of Soviet aerospace engineering, and it continues to fly with some nations today as a testament to its enduring design.
