History:
The Curtiss P-40B Tomahawk was one of the first American fighters to see combat in World War II. Entering service in 1940, the P-40B featured improved armour and armament over earlier versions. It gained fame with the RAF in North Africa and China, where it was flown by the American Volunteer Group, better known as the “Flying Tigers.” Although outperformed by some contemporary enemy fighters, the P-40B proved durable, reliable, and effective at low to medium altitudes. Its iconic shark-mouth nose art became one of the most recognisable images of WWII aviation, symbolising Allied determination in the early, difficult years of the conflict.
