History
The Panzer I Ausf B was Germany’s first mass-produced tank, introduced in the mid-1930s. Armed with twin 7.92mm MG13 machine guns, it was lightly armoured and originally designed as a training vehicle. However, due to Germany’s rapid rearmament, it saw extensive combat in Poland in 1939 and France in 1940. Despite being obsolete against enemy armour, the Panzer I’s speed and mobility allowed it to play a vital role in the early blitzkrieg campaigns, often operating alongside motorised infantry and support vehicles. German motorcycles, such as the BMW R12 and Zündapp KS 600, were used extensively by reconnaissance and dispatch riders, providing mobility and communication to fast-moving Panzer divisions. Together, the Panzer I and motorcycles symbolised the mechanised doctrine that defined Germany’s early victories in WWII.
