History
The Panzerkampfwagen IV (PzKpfw IV) was the backbone of the German armoured forces throughout World War II. First entering service in 1939, it was designed as a support tank but evolved into the mainstay of the Wehrmacht’s panzer divisions. The Ausf H variant, introduced in mid-1943, featured significant upgrades, including thicker armour, improved firepower with the long-barrelled 7.5cm KwK 40 L/48 gun, and Schürzen side skirts for added protection. It saw extensive service on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, including the pivotal battles of Kursk and Normandy. Despite being gradually outclassed by Allied tanks, the PzKpfw IV remained in production until 1945, underscoring its vital role in German armoured warfare.
