History:
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk XIVc represented a major leap in performance, powered by the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine that gave it significantly improved speed and climb rate over earlier Merlin-powered variants. Entering service in 1943, the Mk XIVc was equipped with a four-bladed propeller, strengthened airframe, and powerful armament of 20mm cannons and .50 calibre machine guns. It played a crucial role in countering the Luftwaffe’s advanced aircraft, including the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter and the V-1 flying bombs. Used extensively by RAF squadrons in Europe, the Mk XIVc proved highly effective in both air superiority and ground attack missions. Its blend of speed, agility, and firepower ensured its place as one of the most formidable Spitfires of the war.
