History:
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk XIVc was introduced in 1943 as a response to the increasing threat of advanced German fighters such as the Focke-Wulf Fw 190. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, the Mk XIVc had significantly greater speed and climb performance compared to earlier Merlin-powered Spitfires. Armed with two 20mm Hispano cannons and .50 calibre machine guns, it was formidable in both air-to-air combat and ground-attack missions. The Mk XIVc played an important role in countering the V-1 flying bomb threat and later in escort and air superiority missions over Europe. Its combination of speed, firepower, and agility cemented the Spitfire’s reputation as one of the greatest fighters of WWII.
