History
The Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger I entered service in 1942 and quickly gained a fearsome reputation on the battlefield. Its thick armour and the 8.8cm KwK 36 gun allowed it to dominate most Allied tanks at long range, making it a formidable opponent in both offensive and defensive operations. Deployed on the Eastern Front, in North Africa, and across Europe, the Tiger I became a symbol of German armoured strength, though its heavy weight and mechanical complexity limited mobility and reliability. Despite being produced in relatively small numbers, it had a disproportionate impact on the course of battles, forcing the Allies to develop new tactics and stronger tanks. Today, surviving Tiger Is are preserved in museums, where they remain among the most iconic tanks of the Second World War.
