Academy Plastic Model Kit
USAF F-104C Starfighter “Vietnam” (1/72) 12576
The Academy 1/72 scale F-104C Starfighter kit brings to life Lockheed’s supersonic tactical fighter in its Vietnam War configuration. Known as the “missile with a man in it,” the Starfighter was a sleek, high-speed interceptor adapted by the USAF for tactical fighter roles. This kit includes fine surface details, optional loadouts, and a choice of markings covering three operators: USAF (F-104C), Republic of China Air Force (F-104G), and Japan Air Self-Defense Force (F-104J). With its compact scale and sharp detail, this kit is an excellent addition for Cold War and Vietnam-era collections.

History
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter first flew in 1954 and entered USAF service in 1958. Designed by Kelly Johnson and the Skunk Works team, it was the first operational aircraft capable of sustained Mach 2 flight. The F-104C variant was adapted for ground attack and tactical missions, seeing combat in the skies over Vietnam between late 1965 and mid-1967. Though its limited range and payload restricted its effectiveness, the Starfighter demonstrated impressive speed and climb performance. After USAF service, upgraded versions of the aircraft went on to serve with many allied nations, including Taiwan and Japan, where they remained in use for decades. The Starfighter became one of the most widely exported supersonic fighters of the Cold War and remains an iconic design of the jet age.
