History
The McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II was a supersonic, all-weather fighter aircraft widely used during the Cold War. Serving with the US Marine Corps, VMFA-333 “Fighting Shamrocks” became famous for its distinctive green shamrock insignia. Deployed during the Vietnam War, the squadron flew from carriers in both air superiority and ground attack roles. Equipped with advanced radar and capable of carrying a wide range of weapons, the Phantom II was a formidable opponent. VMFA-333 continued service into the late Cold War before being deactivated in the early 1990s, cementing its legacy as one of the most iconic USMC fighter squadrons.
