Airfix Plastic Model Kit
Airfix Sopwith Pup (1/72) A01062V
The Sopwith Pup was one of Britain’s most iconic fighter aircraft of the First World War. Originally designated the Sopwith Scout, it quickly earned the affectionate nickname “Pup” due to its smaller size compared to its predecessor, the Sopwith 1½ Strutter.
Entering front-line service in late 1916, the Pup proved to be an outstanding dogfighter. Its superb manoeuvrability made it a favourite among pilots and helped the Allies gain crucial air superiority over German forces during a fiercely contested phase of the war. Despite being lightly armed with a single Vickers .303in machine gun, its performance and agility more than made up for its modest firepower.
Nearly 1,800 Sopwith Pups were produced, and the aircraft played a vital role in the early development of British air combat tactics. This 1/72 scale model from Airfix offers a faithful recreation of the historic biplane, perfect for WWI aviation enthusiasts and scale modellers alike.

History:
Designed by the Sopwith Aviation Company, the Pup debuted during a turning point in aerial warfare. Its light frame, superior climb rate, and delicate control made it a pioneer in dogfighting manoeuvres, especially in the hands of skilled RFC pilots. Although eventually outclassed by more heavily armed aircraft, its legacy endures as a key milestone in the evolution of fighter aircraft.
