Airfix Westland Puma HC.1 (1/72) A03021V
Developed to fulfil a Royal Air Force requirement for a capable medium-lift support helicopter, the Westland Puma HC.1 marked a major milestone in Anglo-French aerospace collaboration. Entering service with No.33 Squadron in 1971, it became the RAF’s first helicopter of its type, offering speed, power, and flexibility for a variety of operational roles.
Equipped with twin turboshaft engines and a streamlined airframe, the Puma HC.1 was exceptionally agile and fast for its class. It could carry up to 16 passengers, 12 fully equipped troops, or two tonnes of cargo—either internally or as an underslung load—making it invaluable for battlefield support, humanitarian missions, and tactical deployment. Its reliability and versatility earned it a long-standing place in British military aviation.

History:
The Westland Puma HC.1 was introduced into RAF service during the early 1970s as part of a joint project with French manufacturer Sud Aviation. Its primary role was to provide rapid transport for troops, equipment, and humanitarian aid in diverse operational environments. Over the years, the Puma has proven itself in numerous theatres, from Cold War Europe to modern conflict zones in the Middle East and Africa. Its adaptability, speed, and endurance have kept it at the forefront of RAF helicopter operations. Remarkably, updated variants remain in active service over 50 years later, underscoring the aircraft’s enduring design and operational success.
