AK35031 – M1008 CUCV Cargo Truck with Tarpaulin
The M1008 is the basic cargo truck variant from the first generation of light military utility vehicles developed by General Motors under the CUCV (Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle) programme. Based on the civilian Chevrolet C/K series, this family included the M1009 utility vehicle, M1010 ambulance, M1028 shelter carriers, and M1031 chassis-cab.
Between 1983 and 1987, nearly 75,000 vehicles were produced. The US Army received the majority (68,210), with the remainder distributed to the US Air Force (3,578), US Marine Corps (2,973), and US Navy (504). These trucks were deployed globally, serving in the Gulf War and UN operations in Somalia. Though their withdrawal began in 1994, some remained active in later years, including with SFOR in Bosnia during the late 1990s and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Many were also transferred to allied nations such as Albania, Greece, Latvia, and Lebanon.
The AK35031 kit depicts the M1008 variant fitted with a tarpaulin cover over the cargo bed. It includes a detailed decal sheet featuring markings for six different vehicles: two US Army, one US Marine Corps, one US Navy, one Army National Guard, and one Lebanese Army. Each version features a distinct colour scheme or camouflage pattern.
