History:
The P‑39 Airacobra reconnaissance variant was adapted mid war with camera equipment fitted behind the cockpit or in a forward fairing. It saw limited use in photo recce missions over Mediterranean and Pacific theatres. The recon version retained fighter armament and performance while serving a dual role gathering visual intelligence and engaging ground or air targets.
