History:
The P-51B Mustang marked a turning point in Allied air superiority during WWII. Deployed to the China-Burma-India theatre, the Mustang’s range and speed made it ideal for long-range bomber escort and low-level interdiction missions. Units operating in the CBI often flew in harsh conditions, contending with monsoons, rugged terrain, and logistical limitations. Despite these challenges, the P-51B earned a fearsome reputation in the region, supporting British, American, and Chinese forces in efforts to halt Japanese advances. Its presence was a key factor in maintaining air control over critical supply routes like the “Hump” and in disrupting enemy operations across the region.
