History:
The 8.8cm Flak 36 was one of the most iconic and effective artillery weapons of the Second World War. Initially designed as an anti-aircraft gun, the “88” quickly earned its reputation on the battlefield as a fearsome anti-tank weapon. Its high-velocity rounds were capable of penetrating the armour of virtually any Allied tank during the early and mid-war years, making it a vital part of German defence strategy.
Mounted on a cruciform base, the Flak 36 could be quickly redeployed and offered exceptional traverse and elevation range. Crews were able to dismantle and move the gun using the Sd.Ah.202 trailer, often towed by the Sd.Kfz.7 half-track. Its dual-purpose role made it a backbone of German artillery across multiple theatres—from North Africa and the Eastern Front to the hedgerows of Normandy.
