As World War II ended, many RAF Beaufighter squadrons were disbanded or transitioned to new types, but No.45 Squadron retained the aircraft into the late 1940s. Replacing Mosquitoes with Beaufighter TF.X variants, the squadron deployed to Malaya where they flew ground-attack missions against Communist insurgents during the Malayan Emergency. The Beaufighter’s long range and heavy armament ensured its effectiveness in close support, even in the twilight of its service. By the close of 1949, the type was phased out in favour of the Bristol Brigand, marking the end of the Beaufighter’s distinguished combat career.
