History
The Garford-Putilov armoured car, introduced during World War I, was one of the heaviest and most heavily armed armoured cars of its era. Built on an American Garford truck chassis and armoured by the Russian Putilov Works, it featured a 76.2 mm gun in a rear-mounted turret and multiple machine guns. The driver’s compartment, located at the front, was a cramped yet essential space, containing the vehicle’s steering controls, gear levers, and basic instrumentation. Vision was limited to narrow armoured slits, providing protection but reducing situational awareness. Despite its confined layout, the compartment had to be functional in varied weather and terrain conditions, making its accurate reproduction a key element for modellers aiming to depict the Garford-Putilov in operational settings.
