History
The Garford-Putilov armoured car was a heavy armoured fighting vehicle used by the Imperial Russian Army during World War I. Built on the robust American Garford truck chassis and armoured by the Putilov Works in Russia, these vehicles were armed with a 76.2 mm gun and several machine guns. Their weight and limited power meant that mobility was often a challenge, particularly in muddy or snowy conditions. To improve traction, chains were fitted to the rear wheels, allowing the vehicle to navigate rough terrain and poor road surfaces more effectively. This simple yet effective adaptation became a distinctive feature of the Garford-Putilov, and is a detail often included by modellers wishing to depict the vehicle in a realistic operational setting.
