History:
The Bedford MW was a general service 15-cwt truck developed by the British Army and widely used throughout the Second World War for transporting troops, supplies, and equipment. With its dependable 4×2 configuration and robust construction, the MW became a common sight in British motorised units.
During the early stages of the war, especially in France (1940) and North Africa, many Bedford MW trucks were captured by the German Wehrmacht during rapid advances. These captured vehicles, referred to as Beutewagen (trophy or booty vehicles), were often repainted, modified with German fittings such as Notek lights or jerry can racks, and pressed into Axis service.
These vehicles were typically used in rear-line roles such as supply transport, airfield service, or second-line infantry support. Their appearance in German markings presents a unique modelling opportunity, combining familiar Allied vehicle lines with Wehrmacht details. Gecko Models’ Beutewagen version accurately reflects this conversion, making it an excellent addition to dioramas featuring captured equipment or the resourcefulness of Axis logistics during the conflict.
