History:
The Canadian Ram MkII Kangaroo APC was a converted tank chassis repurposed during the Second World War as an armoured personnel carrier. Originating from surplus Ram tanks—which were themselves based on the American M3 chassis—these conversions removed the main turret and reconfigured the vehicle to carry infantry safely across the battlefield.
Nicknamed “Kangaroo” for their ability to carry troops in their “pouches”, these vehicles were first used in Italy but became particularly effective in Northwest Europe during late 1944 and 1945. The Canadian Army and other Commonwealth units used them to keep up with the fast-moving armoured advances while offering better protection than soft-skinned trucks.
The late version of the Ram Kangaroo featured enhanced armour protection, revised internal stowage, and new fittings to improve operational use. Their role was vital during operations like Market Garden and the final push into Germany. This Gecko Models kit captures the unique profile and battlefield function of these lesser-known but highly significant vehicles in Allied victory.
