History:
In the days following the D-Day landings on June 6th, 1944, Allied paratroopers of the US 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions were warmly welcomed by civilians in the villages and towns of Normandy. Dropped behind enemy lines ahead of the amphibious assault, these troops were tasked with securing roads, bridges, and key positions to disrupt German counterattacks and support the beach landings.
Despite being scattered during their drop, US paratroopers fought with remarkable bravery and cohesion. For the local French population, their arrival marked the end of years under German occupation and the hope of liberation. Scenes of smiling children offering flowers or flags, and locals greeting troops with gratitude, became iconic symbols of Allied success and humanity amid war.
This Gecko Models set captures that spirit with a unique vignette-style composition: paratroopers interacting with a welcoming civilian child. The figures are sculpted with attention to period detail, including authentic airborne gear and personal equipment from the Normandy campaign. A perfect set for diorama builders looking to convey the emotional side of the liberation of Europe.
