History:
During World War II, US Airborne forces became renowned for their daring operations behind enemy lines. Units such as the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions were heavily involved in critical campaigns including the D-Day landings in Normandy, Operation Market Garden, and the Battle of the Bulge. Equipped with specially selected and lightweight gear, these elite troops required dependable and compact weaponry suitable for air deployment and intense ground fighting.
The typical paratrooper carried an M1A1 carbine or a Thompson submachine gun, supplemented by grenades, a bayonet, and a full kit of field gear that included rations, water canteens, and tools. Equipment was often personalised or adapted in the field, reflecting both mission requirements and the paratroopers’ ingenuity. Their iconic M1 helmet, jump boots, and web gear have become symbolic of Allied airborne forces in WWII.
This Gecko Models set captures that historic detail by offering a wide range of weapons and accessories perfect for enhancing figure kits or creating realistic airborne-themed dioramas. Whether building a static display or a combat scene, this set offers versatile options for any WWII modeller.
