ICM Plastic Model Kit
ICM Captured Heinkel’ He 111H-20 Bomber (1/48) 48268
The Heinkel He 111H-20 was a late-war transport variant of one of Germany’s most iconic bombers. This 1/48 scale plastic model kit commemorates an extraordinary piece of aviation history — an He 111 captured by the USAAF, flown in defiance of orders, and preserved for generations. Built in 1944 (factory number 701152), this aircraft was captured by American forces and adopted by the pilots of the 56th Fighter Group, who painted it in their unit’s distinctive deep purple livery.
As the war ended, the aircraft faced being abandoned in Europe. In a bold and unauthorised move, the crew flew it to the RAF airbase at North Weald, much to the surprise of British personnel. This spontaneous action ultimately led to the aircraft’s preservation. It appeared in post-war exhibitions and now resides at the Royal Air Force Museum in London.
This highly detailed model captures the unique story of this aircraft. The kit includes finely rendered fuselage detail, landing gear, engines, and decal options reflecting its time with the USAAF and RAF. The model accurately represents the He 111H-20’s distinctive features, including the extended fuselage and defensive armament positions.
