History:
The Surtees TS16 was introduced during the 1974 Formula One season to succeed the TS14A. Although reliable, it struggled against better-funded rivals with superior aerodynamics. Driven by Carlos Pace, Jochen Mass, and Derek Bell, the TS16/03’s highlight came when Pace secured fourth place at the German Grand Prix on the Nürburgring circuit. Despite funding challenges and frequent retirements, the Surtees team’s persistence reflected the spirit of independent racing in the 1970s. The TS16 underwent numerous updates throughout its career, though it never achieved consistent top-tier results. Today, the surviving TS16/03 is celebrated at historic racing events as a reminder of John Surtees’ enduring legacy as both a world champion driver and a constructor in Formula One.
