History
The KV-1 was the Soviet Union’s primary heavy tank during the early years of the Second World War. Introduced in the late 1930s, it was nearly impervious to most German anti-tank weapons at the time of Operation Barbarossa. By 1942, improvements were made to its armour and turret, including a reinforced cast design to better withstand hits from upgraded enemy weapons. Though eventually overshadowed by the more advanced T-34 and KV-85 variants, the KV-1 played a crucial role in the defence of Leningrad and other key battles. It remains a symbol of Soviet resilience and armoured strength during WWII.
