History
The M1 Abrams has been the mainstay of American armoured forces since its introduction in the 1980s. The M1A1 and M1A2 variants introduced upgraded firepower, targeting systems, and survivability. In response to urban combat environments, the Tank Urban Survival Kit (TUSK) was developed to improve crew protection with additional reactive armour, slat armour, thermal sights and remote weapon systems. These upgrades saw combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, where threats from IEDs and RPGs made urban operations highly dangerous. The TUSK-equipped Abrams remains a powerful example of battlefield adaptability and modern engineering excellence.
