History
On 13 June 1944, in the Normandy town of Villers-Bocage, German tank commander Michael Wittmann carried out a daring solo ambush against elements of the British 7th Armoured Division. Driving a Tiger I, Wittmann’s surprise assault destroyed up to fourteen British tanks, fifteen personnel carriers, and two anti-tank guns within minutes. His actions earned him the Swords to his Knight’s Cross and established him as one of Germany’s most decorated tank aces. This Rye Field Models kit recreates the Tiger I Wittmann commanded during the battle, capturing a pivotal moment in the Normandy campaign and one of WWII’s most well-known tank engagements.
