Tamiya Plastic Model Kit
British Archer SPG (1/35) 35356
This 1/35 scale Tamiya model kit recreates the British Archer, a unique self-propelled anti-tank gun based on the Valentine tank chassis. Designed late in WWII, it was developed to provide mobility for the powerful 17-pounder gun after earlier British anti-tank weapons proved inadequate. The gun was mounted in a fixed rear-facing position due to the limited space on the chassis, resulting in the vehicle having to retreat from its firing position rather than advance. Despite this quirk, the Archer was effective in ambush tactics and offered reliable performance on the battlefield.
- Highly detailed static display model of the British Archer SPG

Note: This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.
History
The Archer was introduced by the British Army in 1944 as a response to the increasing armour threat posed by German tanks. Built using the chassis of the tried and tested Valentine tank, the turret was replaced with an open-topped fighting compartment housing the powerful 17-pounder gun. Its distinctive rear-facing configuration made it ideal for hit-and-run tactics, allowing it to fire from concealed positions and quickly withdraw. The Archer served in British and Commonwealth units through the final stages of WWII, including in Northwest Europe and Italy. Its reliability, low profile, and powerful armament ensured continued use into the early Cold War period.
