Tamiya F-16CJ Fighting Falcon (1/72)
The Lockheed Martin F-16CJ Fighting Falcon is a single-engine multirole fighter developed for the United States Air Force and adopted by numerous allied nations. Originally designed as a lightweight air superiority fighter, the F-16 evolved into a highly capable multirole platform, excelling in both air-to-air combat and ground attack roles. The CJ variant, based on the Block 50 airframe, is optimised for the Suppression of Enemy Air Defences (SEAD) mission, using advanced avionics and the AGM-88 HARM missile to neutralise radar-guided threats.
Introduced in the late 1970s, the F-16 remains one of the most widely used fighter aircraft in the world, with over 4,500 units produced. The type has participated in numerous conflicts including Operations Desert Storm, Allied Force, Enduring Freedom, and Inherent Resolve. Its combination of agility, advanced avionics, and versatility has made it a favourite among pilots and a staple in modern air forces.

History
The F-16 Fighting Falcon was conceived during the Lightweight Fighter program of the 1970s, designed for affordability, ease of maintenance, and superior dogfighting performance. The CJ Block 50 variant entered service in the 1990s, equipped with the General Electric F110-GE-129 engine and modernised systems for electronic warfare and SEAD operations. Its capability to perform both offensive and defensive missions, combined with a proven combat record, has ensured its continued service across NATO and allied air forces. Even as newer fighters enter service, upgraded F-16s remain an essential component of global air power well into the 21st century.
