Tamiya Plastic Model Kit
German 18 ton Half-Track FAMO (1/35) 35239
This 1/35 scale Tamiya kit depicts the German Sd.Kfz. 9 “FAMO” 18 ton half-track, the largest and most powerful half-track used by the Wehrmacht during WWII. Designed primarily for towing heavy artillery pieces such as the 21cm and 24cm howitzers, it also played a critical role in battlefield recovery operations for damaged tanks. While a single FAMO could tow a Pz.Kpfw. III or IV, heavy vehicles like the Tiger I or Panther often required three or more FAMOs linked together using wire ropes or draw-bars.
The FAMO was a key asset in both offensive and defensive operations, especially in North Africa and on the Eastern Front, where rapid tank recovery and repair were vital. Powered by a Maybach HL 108 engine, it could also transport over 30 troops when required. Its robust suspension, large rear tracks, and steerable front wheels provided excellent cross-country performance, making it indispensable for the German army’s mechanised support units.
- Highly detailed model with realistic treads, suspension, and synthetic rubber front tyres.
- Steerable front wheels and optional engine side panels to display the detailed engine.
- Includes rear gate and storage doors that can be built open or closed.
- Tank towing draw-bar included for diorama possibilities.
- Eight figures in four poses for realistic crew and maintenance scenes.
Measuring 243mm in length and 75mm in width, this kit captures the imposing size and presence of the FAMO, perfect for pairing with German armour such as the Panzer III, Panzer IV, Tiger I, or Panther in diorama settings.
